Prisident Akufo-Addo Is Part of NPP’s Problems –Party Elders
Some founding members and elders of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) have accused president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of being part of the current problems facing the party.
Former Chief of Staff in the erstwhile John Agyekum Kufuor administration, Kwadwo Mpiani, Former GFA president, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe and Political Analyst and member of the NPP Dr Richard Amoako Baah made the suggestion on different platforms following the recent resignation of a founding member and an early financier of the party, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten.
Mr Mpiani said the problems of the NPP deepened after the unconstitutional removal of the former National Chairman Paul Afoko and the former General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong.
According to Mpiani, the affairs of the party were effectively handed over to one person after the removal of the two leaders of the party.
“Unfortunately, some members, including members of the group to which I belong, take pride in this by saying that they were able to remove these people. As soon as the party removed these people, they gave the party to one man who was the candidate at that time, and who is the President at this time, and this is the problem we have in the party which we are not confronting. And if we don’t confront this problem, we are going to have more problems within the party.”
“What I am saying is that there was this problem, and the party in its wisdom decided to give the party to the Candidate Akufo-Addo, who’s now President Akufo-Addo.”
Mpiani’s comments come at a time when the NPP is grappling with internal divisions. Alan Kyerematen, a former Trade and Industry Minister, resigned from the party on Monday, September 25, to contest the 2024 presidential election as an Independent Candidate.
Kyerematen cited the hijacking of the party by a select few as one of the reasons for his resignation.

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe in an interview of CITI TV’s Face To Face show also accused president Akufo-Addo of hijacking the NPP party’s decision making process in recent times.
“I know the party very well and anything that will be said today is under the form of [President] Akufo-Addo. This party was formed with the motto Development in Freedom, but it appears we have lost both yet these are the things when I talk about, they say I am NDC. Let us be sincere with ourselves, there is no single development that this government has executed. Development is totally absent in the party now.”

Dr Richard Amoako Baah also variously accused the president of various wrong doings which are affecting the future of the party.
He said among others that Akufo-Addo was allowed to do things as he pleases without recourse to the party structures including hus sole selection of Dr Mahamadu Bawumia who had been in the party for five years before his selection, his endorsement and subsequent election of Fredie Blay as part chairman, his refusal to sack Finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta when NPP MPs demanded for his dismissal among several others which are all detrimental to the fortunes of the NPP.
