Parliament’s Mines And Energy Committee Visits Electrochem Ghana Salt Mine Today
The Parliamentary select committee on Mines and Energy is expected to visit the production site of Electrochem Ghana ltd as part of its investigations into the unfortunate clash between security officers and residents of Toflokpo during normal working tour of the company a fortnight ago.
A police report on the incident indicated that two persons lost their lives as a result of the clash.
First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Wusu directed the committee to embark on the visit following a statement made on the floor of parliament Member for Sege, Christian Corletey Otuteye condemning the shootings and called for a parliamentary probe into the matter.
The visit according to the Speaker is to enable the committee made recommendations for the consideration of plenary to help find a lasting solution to the impasse between Electrochem Ghana and residents of the Songor Lagoon area.
Chairman of the Mines and Energy Committee, Samuel Atta Akyea and Ranking Member of the committee, John Jinapor are expected to lead the 18 member select committee.
other members of the committee include, Elvis Morris Donkoh (Vice chairperson), Della Adjoa Sowah (Deputy Ranking), Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Habib Iddrisu, Edward Abambire Bawah, Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, Wisdom Gidisu, Francis Manu-Adabor and Dr Kwabena Donkor.
The rest are; Paul Apreku Twum-Barimah, K.T. Hammond, Mohammed Muabarak Muntaka, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, John Peter Amewu, Lydia Seyram Alhassan and Naser Toure Mahama.
