NDC Would Not Retreat Until the Right Thing Is Done; Asiedu Nketia Declares

September 17, 2024

Thousands of supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) with placards carrying various inscriptions gathered at various points across the country in protest against the Electoral Commission for an audit of the voter register ahead of the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.

National Chairman of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia in an address at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra to officially to kick start the nationwide demonstration asserted that the NDC would not retreat nor surrender untill the right thing is done by the electoral commission to safeguard the sanctity of the polls.

Mr Asiedu stated that the action taken by the NDC to demonstrate is aimed at preventing war as a rrsult of the conduct of the EC and government.

He indicated that Ghana’s democracy is at risk and urged the need for the current generation and all well meaning citizens to fight for its restoration in memory of the forebears of the nation.

The NDC National Chairman also hinted that that, the party would hold district and constituency levels protests against the EC if no immediate action is taken.

The demonstration dubbed: ‘Enough is Enough’ is geared towards mounting pressure of the electoral management body to initiative processes for a forensic audit of the voter register which the NDC is convinced is fraught with several discrepancies and irregularities.

This the party believes has the tendency of compromising gthe integrity of the polls if not corrected.

The exercise which is being held simultaneously in all sixteen regional capitals terminates at the various EC offices where party officials would present a petition to the officials.
