Minority Throws Open Invitation To Bawumia For A Debate On The Floor Of Parliament
The Minority caucus caucus in Ghana’s parliament has thrown an open invitation to vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to participate in the debate on the mid-year budget review on the floor of the House .
Finace Minister, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam on Tuesday presnted the Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review of the 2024 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the government of Ghana to the represntatives of the people.
According to the caucus, the invitation to the vice president is his capacity as chairman of the Economic Management Team of the government.
Addressing a press conference in parliament on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, First Deputy Minority Whip, Ahmed Ibrahim said the invitation to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, is fortified by the Standing orders of the House.
“The Minority is extending this public invitation to the Vice President given his role as Chairman of the Economic Management Team of the government” he said.
Parliamentary rules they say “permit a sitting Vice President to participate in debates on the floor of the House”.
“Pursuant to the Vice President’s recent call for a debate on the economy, this invitation presents Alhaji Bawumia an excellent opportunity and forum to debate and account for his stewardship over the last seven and a half years (7.5 years) as Chairman of the Economic Management Team”.
The minority said it has assembled a cracked team of debaters ready to face off with the vice president as the debabte commences on Thursday July 25, 2024.

• Hon John Abdulai Jinapor – Ranking Member, Committee on Energy and Member of the Finance Committee
• Hon Eric Opoku – Ranking Member, Food, Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs, and Member of the Committee on Economy and Development
• Hon Laadi Ayii Ayamba – Member, Finance Committee and Ecowas Parliament
• Hon Joseph Bukari Nikpe – Ranking Member, Committee on Employment, Social Welfare and Pensions”
