Minority NDC Begun Solidarity Boycott Of Parliamentary Sittings
The Minority caucus in Parliament has begun its boycott of parliamentary sittings in solidarity with three of their members who are facing court actions.
The Minority Leader Dr Cassiel Ato Forson on Tuesday following the swearing-in of the Assin North MP, James Gyakye Quayson announced that his side of the House, the minority caucus will boycott parliamentary proceedings on any day the Assin North Member is due for court to solidarise with him.
Shortly afterwards, deputy minority leader Emmanuel Armah Kofi-buah held a press conference where he announced further that, the caucus will not participate in the business of the house on days that their three colleagues namely, Dr Casiel Ato Forson, James Gyakye Quayson and Collins Dauda are due to appear in court.
The Minority Leader, and James Gyakye Quayson, the MP for Assin North, are both due to appear in court on Thursday July 6, 2023 for their ongoing cases, day one of the minority boycott.
Dr Ato Forson is currently facing a criminal case related to an alleged financial loss of €2.37 million to the state. The case revolves around a deal to purchase 200 ambulances between 2014 and 2016.
On the other hand, James Gyakye Quayson is undergoing trial at the High Court in Accra for charges of forgery and perjury related to events leading to the 2020 general elections.
The third Member of the caucus facing prosecution is the MP for Asutifi South, Collins Dauda offence relates to the Saglemi affordable housing project.
In a brief statement, the Minority expressed their unwavering support for their colleagues, emphasizing their unity by abstaining from participating in the day’s parliamentary proceedings.
“This is the beginning of a series of actions that the Caucus will be embarking on to end the ongoing persecution of the Minority Leader himself, the Hon. James Gyakye Quayson and the Hon. Collins Dauda.”
