Mines And Energy Committee Meets Management of Electrochem Ghana Ltd
Ghana’s parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy has engaged management of Electrochem Ghana limited, a salt mining firm operating the Ada Songor Salt project over the clash between irate youth of Toflokpo and security officers on Monday November 6, 2023.

Following a statement made by the member for Sege, Christian Corletey Otuteye on the incident, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu who presided over proceedings, directed the Mines and Energy committee to conduct an investigations into the leasehold agreement and the parliamentary approval that authorized Electrochem Ghana to embark on salt mining in Ada.

The Samuel Atta Akyea chaired committee is expected to present a report for the consideration of plenary after the visit to the Electrochem Ghana salt mine and engagements with the feuding factions to enable parliament as a whole make a determination on the matter.

The engagement of the committee with management of Electrochem was held behind closed-doors.

Members of the committee who were at the engagement include: Samuel Atta Akyea (Chairman), John Abdulai Jinapor (Ranking Member), Elvis Morris Donkoh (Vice chairperson) and Della Adjoa Sowah (Deputy Ranking).

Others were Edward Abambire Bawah, Wisdom Gidisu, Francis Manu-Adabor, Paul Apreku Twum-Barimah, Mohammed Muabarak Muntaka and Naser Toure Mahama.
