Mills and Akufo-Addo Built UGMC, Not Mahama – Miracles Aboagye

June 18, 2024

Spokesperson for the Bawumia Campaign Team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye has stated that the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) was never built by former President John Dramani Mahama.

Miracles pointed out that the edifice was rather built by late President John Evans Atta-Mills and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He made this statement when he addressed the public at the Next Chapter series of the Bawumia campaign team on Sunday, 16 June 2024.

“President Mahama never built the University of Ghana Medical Centre. He had no hand in the construction of the University of Ghana Medical Centre. Two presidents rather constructed the edifice.

“Former President Mills built phase one of the University of Ghana Medical Centre which he couldn’t complete. Former President Mahama came to continue and he didn’t finish it. President Akufo-Addo came to complete the phase one and commissioned it” he observed.

“President Akufo-Addo came and went to Parliament for approval of the loan to construct phase two of the University of Ghana Medical Centre. The loan facility for phase two forms part of the loans Akufo-Addo is always accused by the NDC that he has accumulated” Miracles further explained.

He indicated that phase two of the University of Ghana Medical Centre was started from scratch by the Akufo-Addo administration and completed by the same administration. He reiterated the fact that Mahama had no hand in the construction of the hospital project.

“Let me put on record tonight that it is never true that Mahama built UGMC. President Mahama, His Excellency the former president, had no hand in the construction of the University of Ghana Medical Centre.

“It was built by former President Mills and President Akufo-Addo. President Mills completed 70% of phase one whereas Akufo-Addo came to complete it”, Dennis Miracles Aboagye emphasized.

He wondered why the NDC would want to claim credit for the construction of Terminal 3 at the Kotoka International Airport, an existing airport but wouldn’t want the NPP to do same for the phase two of UGMC.

“The NDC built Terminal 3 which is beautiful. They built it on the existing Kotoka International Airport and that’s fine. But when we tell them we built phase two of UGMC, they say it is not a standalone facility so we cannot take credit for it. What sort of logic is this?” he quizzed.
