McDan Has Established State of the Art Air Cargo Hub, Procured 2 New Vessels To Enhance Trade- Group Chairman
The McDan Group has established a state of the art Air Cargo hub that connects Africa to the world and procured two new vessels designed to enhance connectivity within the continent, Group Chairman, Dr Daniel McKorley has revealed.
Dr McKorley who disclosed this when addressed the 4th CHINET Aviation and Cargo conference in Lagos, Nigeria on Thursday August 22, 2024 on the theme: “E-commerce and the Future of Aircargo in Africa” said the investment is to help adress the challenges facing the cargo and logistics sector on the African contnent.
“Today, I am proud to announce that McDan has made significant investments to address these challenges and enhance the cargo and logistics landscape in West Africa. We have established a state-of-the-art Air Cargo hub that connects Africa to the world. This hub is designed to handle a high volume of cargo efficiently and is equipped with the latest technologies to ensure the swift and secure movement of goods.
Furthermore, I am delighted to announce that McDan has purchased two new
vessels that are yet to be commissioned as the Black Star Lines. These vessels are specifically designed to enhance connectivity within the sub-region and the entire continent of Africa. They will play a crucial role in facilita`ting intra-African trade, which is vital for the economic growth and development of the region. These investments reflect our unwavering commitment to supporting the growth and prosperity of West Africa.” Dr Daniel McKorley said
McDan as he is popularly known also advocate concerted partnership and collaboration among industry players and other stakeholders to collectively overcome the challenges together.
“Our efforts alone are not enough. Collaboration and partnerships are essential to overcoming the challenges we face. We must work together with governments, regulatory bodies, local businesses, and international organizations to create a conducive environment for cargo and logistics operations.
By fostering strong partnerships, we can leverage our collective strengths and resources to drive positive change” the McDan Group Chairman urged.
According to him “E-commerce is transforming the global economy, and Africa is no exception. The continent’s e-commerce market is expected to reach $75 billion by 2025. This growth is driven by a young, tech-savvy population, increasing internet penetration, and the rise of mobile money. However, for e-commerce to truly flourish, we must address the logistical challenges that hinder its progress”.
