Majority Caucus Has Not Changed Its Leadership-MPs
A group of Members of Parliament speaking on behalf of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Majority Caucus have debunked media reports of changes at its leadership.
According to the caucus, the reports circulating in the media of change in leadership of the Majority in Ghana’s parliament are untrue.
Addressing a press conference in Parliament House Tusday Fruary 20, 2024, First Deputy Speaker and Member for Bekwai, Joseph Osei-Owusu urged the public to ignore such claims.
The unconfirmed report was widely circulated in the media that the veteran Suame lawmaker, current Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu will be replaced by the Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin
The media reports named Frank Annoh Dompreh, current Majority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri as Deputy Majority Leader, whiles current First Deputy Whip, Habib Iddrisu as the Majority Chief Whip.
Asokwa MP, Patricia Appiagyei was named as the First Deputy Majority Whip WHILES Second Deputy Whip goes to Sefwi-Akontombra MP, Alex Tetteh Djornobuah.
But in a sharp rebuttal of the proposed changes, Mr Osei-Owusu was blunt in stating that the majority caucus has not contemplated any such moves.
“The publications that have been circulating, suggesting changes in our leadership, are unequivocally false. We wish to assure the public and our members that we have full confidence in our current leadership team, and there are no plans to alter this structure. The status quo remains,” Joe Wise stated.
He also added that the new standing orders of Parliament stipulate that such leadership changes should be done in conjunction with the caucus, unlike previous instances where the party acted without recourse to the caucus.
