Justice For Jerry Kpesenu: Keta MP Petitions IGP, Demands Swift Investigation
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Keta, Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to as a matter of urgency probe the death of mr Jerry Kpesenu, a resident of Keta who died in police custody.
The victim, Jerry Kesenu reportedly died whiles in custody at the Keta Divisional Headquarters after his arrest.

According to the petition, the victim died as a result of what it described as “the unprofessional and inhumane conduct of officers from the Keta Police Division” on June 6, 2024.
Mr Kpesenu, a respected landlord in the area was involved in a didpute with his tenants over the installation of an air conditioner which he did not sanction.
The incident attracted the aatention of the police who were called-in to maintain peace and order.
The petition by the lamaker stated that, the law enforecement officers rather resorted to intimidating the victim through physical abuse and beatings with electrical cables before later arresting him.
Mr Kpesenu later died in police custody under bizarre and unexplained circumstances.
The Keta MP and residents of the area belives the victim died as a result of the unprofessional conduct of the police officers and are therefore demanding a swift full scale investigation into the death of Mr Kpesenu.
Among the demands being sought by the Keta lawmaker are the conduct of an independent autopsy at a reputable pathology centre at the expense of the Ghana Police service to establish true cause of death as well as a disclplinary action against officers culpable in the act.
Other demands include the immediate suspension of the officers involved to aid impartial investigation of the matter and the provision of regular updates on progress of investigation and assurances that justice will be served at the end of day.
