Julie Essiam Is First Female Commissioner General Of GRA
Commissioner responsible for Support Services Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Ms. Julie Essiam has been elevated to the position of Commissioner General of the Authority, sources at the authority have disclosed.
Ms Julie Essiam has thus become the first female to assume the position of Commissioner General of the country’s revenue collection body in recent history of the 4th republic.
According to EAGLEGHANA.COM sources, her appointment has however been met with strong opposition by the Board Chairman of the authority, Dr Tony Oteng Gyasi who has allegedly tendered in his resignation as a result.
Some staff who got wind of the her choice as Commissioner General are also reported planning a strong protest due to her no nonsense non-compromising and strict mannagerial leadership styles exhibited since joining the authority.
It would be recalled that early this year the outgoing GRA Boss, Rev Dr Amishaddai Owusu-Amoah came under serious criticism for staying in office two years after passing the compulsory retirement age without a contract.
Just last week, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia publicly criticised the GRA for failing to pursue new ideas but kept harassing companies in the name of collecting taxes.
