Its John And Jane Ticket For NDC Again As Mahama Retains Prof Naana Opoku-Agyeman
Baring any 11th hour decision, former President John Mahama and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NSC ) will announce Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as his presidential running mate for the 2024 general elections as he seeks a record setting return to the Jubilee House.
Eagleghana sources revealed several other names that have surfaced as potential candidates for the NDC Running Mate job but Mr Mahama settled on his 2020 partner, Prof Jane Naana.
These include former Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah; economist Dr. Nii Moi Thompson; Member of Parliament for Asunafo South, Eric Opoku, former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu, Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey – Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings and retired Police Commissioner, Nathan Kofi Boakye.
Mr John Dramani Mahama is reported to have submitted the names with his preffered candidate as running mate to the party’s Council of Elders on February 27, 2024.
A meeting with the Council of Elders is scheduled for Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 11 am to deliberate on the nomination, followed by a National Executive Committee meeting at 3 pm on the same day for further discussions.
Some gender activists have suggested that it will be suicidal for the NDC and its flagbearer to change Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman as running mate for election 2024.
Most sitting lawmakers on the ticket of the NDC also belive the former University of Cape Coast Vice Chancellor and Education Minister is the perfect partner for John Dramani Mahama as the party readies for battle against incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) with Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia as flagbearer.
