Goverment Hands Over 124 Housing Units To Victims Of Appiatse Explosion
Vice-President Mahamadu Bawumia has officially handed over the first phase of the Appiatse reconstruction project consisting of 124 housing units to victims of the explosion in the Western Region.
The newly built structures, ranging from one-bedroom to seven-bedroom units, come with enhanced facilities, including a market, six-unit classrooms and kindergarten blocks.
The Appiatse community was on 20 January 2022, hit by an explosion that wiped away the entire community in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region.
At least 900 persons were displaced and 13 confirmed dead by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) following the incident.
Speaking at the official commissioning and handing over of the reconstruction of Appiatse Community on Thursday (2 May), Bawumia commended all stakeholders who contributed to the success of the project.
“Today we stand on the praecipes of a new dawn, the rebirth of Appiatse with the completion of 124 housing units together with other social amenities to replace what was damaged by the explosion, he said.
“We find strength in the face of the devastation, hope amidst despair and unity of purpose despite the disintegration, we’re grateful to all who offered support in our time of need.”
