Fetu Afahye: Let’s unite and support Oguaaman to grow – Asantehene

September 9, 2024

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called on the people of Oguaa and all Ghanaians to unite and support the growth and development of Oguaaman.

Speaking through his linguist during the 60th anniversary of the Fetu Afahye which also marks the 25th anniversary of the Oguaamanhene’s ascension to the throne in Cape Coast on Saturday, Asantehene who had been accompanied by his chiefs emphasised the importance of love and unity among the people.

“If you see me and my chiefs here, it is because we are here to show love and to affirm that we are all one people,” he stated.

He praised the Oguaamanhene for his humility and dedication to the community, expressing his prayers for continued growth and development for Oguaaman.

He also urged the people of Oguaa to support their leader with love and unity, highlighting that such collective effort is crucial for the progress of the community.

“I have known you for a long time and I know you are humble. I pray for growth and development for Oguaaman from this day forward as you mark your 25th anniversary of ascending the throne and the 60th anniversary of this festival. I also plead with the people of Oguaa to support you with love and unity so that Oguaaman can grow,” he stated.

He further stressed the historical significance of Cape Coast, reminding the people that it was the first city in Ghana where many foundational institutions were established including sectors such as education, trade and the cotton industry.

He therefore urged all and sundry to support these sectors to grow.

“Education started here. Trade started here. Cotton was brought here first. So, if education started here, then education must be enhanced here in Ogua. Trade must also progress here. Oguaaman must therefore not be underestimated.

“Let’s unite in oneness for Oguaman to progress and thrive as we have witnessed today. I plead with Oguaman and all Ghanaians to support Oguaaman so that it will develop.”

“When I came, you told me that you want to establish an educational fund. I support the fund with GH₵500,000. I also call on all Ghanaians to support the fund so that education can be enhanced in Oguaaman,” Asantehene said.

The Fetu Afahye festival, known for its rich cultural heritage, once again brought together people from all walks of life to celebrate and reflect on the importance of unity and support in fostering community growth.
