Electrochem Ghana Limited Donates GHC 200,000 Towards 2024 Asafotufiami
Electrochem Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of the McDan Group, operators of Africa’s largest salt mine and processing plant in Ada Songor for commercial salt production for domestic use and export has donated Two Hundred Thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 200,000) to the Ada Traditional Council in support of this year’s Asafotufiami.
The company is optimistic of supporting the festival in other areas as it approaches.
The gesture by Electrochem Ghana has brought excitement and hope to the people of Ada as they look forward to a brighter future.
Mr. Abdul Razack Adams, Chief executive officer of the company in his speech at the 87th Launch of the festival at the McDan Sports Complex, Sege in the Ada West District of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, expressed the company’s gratitude and commitment to Ada’s growth.
The CEO who thanked the Ada Traditional Council, the paramount chief, the Maklalo and the entire Ada for their support ever since the company took over the development of the Songor Lagoon, noted that, Electrochem is like a baby – growing, learning, and needing care to thrive, and revealed that “this year’s Asafotu festival will even be better than that of last year because Electrochem is fully coming on board,” he stated.
According to him, the company has introduced the community pans initiative to help communities along the Songor enclave, interest-free loans to the women to make them stable and self-reliant in their businesses and is ready to make the best out of the Songor lagoon for the Ada state and Ghana to benefit.
“We have added one million Ghana Cedis to the loan scheme and I will make sure that it increases to ten million Ghana cedis in the years ahead. Nene Chairman, as we are expanding our operations to the Ada East District, I want to emphasize that, our production will be increasing and will soon get to one million or two metric tonnes production of salt per annum. When that happens, it means that the royalties to be paid to the Ada State will increase and I am envisaging over sixteen million US Dollars annually,” he emphasized.
Electrochem Ghana Limited has sponsored the Asafotu festival consecutively for three years (2021-2023).
The Manklalo of Ada, Nene Agudey Obichere III, who was the Chairman at the launch, hailed Electrochem Ghana Limited, and described the company as the catalyst for transformation in the Ada State, ending years of underdevelopment.
He said, “The company’s commercial salt production and social investments have brought significant positive change to the area.”
Nene Obichere III expressed deep gratitude to Electrochem Ghana Limited for their support of previous festivals and local projects.
He revealed that Dr. Daniel McKorley, Chairman of the McDan Group, had shared two major development plans for Ada, with the first phase already underway.
“For years, we had untapped ‘white gold’ resources; Electrochem’s arrival changed everything. They’re not only mining but also investing in social services and our festivals, making a huge impact,” the Manklalo said.
