Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Supports Ga State Education Fund With GHC 500,000
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has pledged to provide GH₵500,000 as seed money to establish an education Endowment Fund for brilliant, needy children in the Ga State.
In addition, the Asantehene provided GH₵50,000 and assorted drinks to the Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, as a gesture of gratitude for “the love” shown to him during his participation in the Asantehene’s recent celebration of his 25th anniversary on the throne.
The Asantehene announced this during a grand durbar held in his honour by the Ga State, led by the Ga Mantse, Nii Teiko Tsuru II.
The visit by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II marks the first by an Asantehene to the Ga State in 78 years, following a similar visit by Otumfuo Osei Agyeman Prempeh II in 1946.
“I want to donate an amount of GH₵500,000 to the Ga Education Fund to help in the education of less-privileged Ga children,” the Asantehene’s interpreter said.
The Asantehene expressed his gratitude for the Ga State’s warm hospitality and emphasised the importance of unity among Ghanaians. He called for a united front between the Ga and Ashanti people, as well as cooperation among all chiefs.
“The people of Ga and Ashanti must unite to develop our peoples. All Ga chiefs must unite behind Nii Teiko Tsuru II. Unity and development must be our focus in the interest of our children,” he emphasised.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II argued that modern chieftaincy should prioritise development over territorial disputes. “The current fight should be for development to benefit future generations,” he said.
Acknowledging the support he received from Nii Teiko Tsuru II during his 25th-anniversary celebration, the Asantehene said, “I appreciate your presence during my 25th anniversary celebration. You showed love. This is a reciprocal gesture.”
The Asantehene urged all Ga chiefs to support Nii Teiko Tsuru II’s development initiatives for the region and pledged his continued backing for the Ga Mantse.
