Armed Forces Condemns Killing Of A Soldier Over Disputed Land

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has strongly condemned the killing of a soldier Lance Corporal Omar Abdullah Rahman over alleged disputed half plot of land at Millennium City, Kasoa in the Central Region.

Confirming the tragic loss in a press release on May 1, 2024,the GAF said “We reiterate our commitment to maintaining law and order in our communities and urge all citizens to seek peaceful and lawful means to resolve land disputes and to refrain from engaging in acts of violence to prevent such tragic incidents.”

According to the statement signed by Brigadier General E. Aggrey -Quashie, Director General Public Relations, preliminary investigation indicates,the victim – Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Omar Abdul Rahman, owned a half plot of land in dispute, was informed that some individuals were working on his land.

He, along with two colleagues—L/Cpl Danso Michael and L/Cpl Ametus Matthew—visited the land and confirmed the information.

The soldiers intervened and then proceeded to the Millennium City Police Station to report the issue.

“While at the Police Station, the acclaimed owner of the land arrived with two others believed to be land guards and confronted the soldiers,” the GAF press release stated. “During the confrontation, they began firing at L/Cpl Danso, who was going to park a vehicle at the Police Station.”

The statement further said,police disarmed and arrested the shooter, but not before L/Cpl Danso was fatally struck by gunfire. His body was taken to the 37 Military Hospital morgue.

GAF expressed its “heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, colleagues, friends, and loved ones of the deceased soldier,” and noted its commitment to working closely with the police in the ongoing investigation. “The general public will be duly informed about the outcome of the investigations in due course,” the press release added.
