Afenyo-Markin Is New Board Chairman For ECG
President Akufo-Addo has appointed the Majority Leader, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin as the new Board Chairman of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
A letter signed by Secretaryto the President and Ambassador-At-Large, Nana Asante Bediatuo stated that Member of Parliament for Effutu replaces Herbert Krapa, who is now the Minister of State at the Energy Ministry.
The President further directed the Sector Minister to act on the nomination following the Company Act, 2019 (ACT 992) and the Regulations of the Company.
“The President of the Republic has nominated Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin (MP.), Member of Parliament for Effutu in the Central Region, as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (the “Company.”
“Kindly take the necessary steps to give effect to the President’s nomination in accordance with the Companies Act 2019 (Act 992) and the Regulations of the Company,” the letter read.
Until his new appointment, Afenyo-Markin was the board chairman of the Ghana Road Fund.
Mr Afenyo-Markin is expected to lead the ECG Board in addressing the challenges facing the power distributor.
These include recent intermittent power cuts amidst the power play between ECG and Volta Power Authority (VRA) evident in blame games.
In a related development, president Akufo-Addo has appointed Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annor Dompreh as the Board chairman of the Ghana Road Fund.
Mr Annor Dompreh who is MP for Nsawam Adoagyiri is expected to step down as a member of the ECG board whiles, First deputy majorty Whip and Member of parliament for Tolon, Habib Iddrisu is expected to become a board member of the ECG.
