Ada Asafotufiami: Chiefs And People Hold Grand Durbar Today
The Chiefs, Elders and people of Ada traditional area in the Greater Accra region are holding a grand durbar of the 2024 edition of their annual Asafotufiami today at the Presbyterian school park at Big Ada with President of the republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo expected to be the Guest of Honour.
Asafotufiami is celebrated to remember the Ada indigenes’ cultural history, customs, and traditions, as well as to pay homage to their predecessors who had paved the way for them over the centuries.
The Ada Traditional Council in collaboration with the Asafotu Planning Committee, on May 30, 2024 launched the festival at the McDan Sports Complex at Sege on the theme: “Upholding the Discipline of Our Forebears as a Tool for the Sustainable Development and Unity of Ada.”
The 2024 edition is the 87th in the history of the festival.
The celebration does not only showcases the values and fortitude of the people, but it also served as a poignant reminder of Ada’s resilience and collective strength.
Asafotufiami’s significance transcends mere celebration and draws people from all walks of life together and provides an opportunity for the people of Ada to demonstrate their hospitality and generosity in welcoming visitors from near and far whiles emphasizing unity, respect, and love both during and after the celebration.
It also serves as a reminder to the current generation of the sacrifices made by their forebears to secure the land for the current generation.
Ada is noted for its distinct tourist attractions, including the estuary and beautiful islands, complemented by modern recreational centers like Aqua Safari and Treasure Island.
Activities that preceeded today’s grand festival, candlelight parade through some principal streets and Miss Asafotu 2024.
The Grand Durbar of chiefs and people is expected to showcase the rich tradition of Ada, characterized by cultural displays, musical and dance performances, and other traditional actions.
