Woman Comes Out As Ecosexual And Says She’s In Relationship With Tree

A woman has opened up about being in a relationship with a tree and being ‘ecosexual’.

Sonja Semyonova lives in Vancouver Island, British Columbia and is a self-intimacy guide.

The 45-year-old was experiencing feelings of loneliness when she stumbled upon a unique connection with well… an oak tree. Prepare for your mind to be opened:

Sonja first met the tree in question while on daily walks in 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic, however, it wasn’t until summer 2021 when she began to have ‘erotic’ experiences with the tree.

She explains: “I was walking a path near the tree five days a week for the whole winter. I noticed a connection with the tree.

“I would lie against it. There was an eroticism with something so big and so old holding my back.”

Sonja was looking to find a person who made her feel such a way, but ultimately, she says she ended up finding it with the tree.

“The feeling of being tiny and supported by something so solid. The feeling of not being able to fall,” she continues.

“I had been craving that rush of erotic energy that comes when you meet a new partner and that is not sustainable.”

However, despite her ‘erotic energy’ with the tree, that’s not to say she has a physical sexual relationship with the oak.

Sonja notes there’s ‘a big misconception’ with ecosexuality that it means people have sex with nature, however, she says it’s ‘a different way to explore the erotic’.

She adds: “To watch the changing of the seasons is to me an erotic act. You go from death in winter and then everything comes alive in spring and mates.

There are similarities between sex with people and the eroticism ecosexuals feel with nature, but they’re not the same.”

And well, if on the off-chance you’re now questioning whether you’re ecosexual, Sonja argues we all are and that it goes beyond just having ‘erotic energy’ with trees.

The self-intimacy guide says ecosexuality is ‘already present in a lot of people’ exemplified by how many people ‘want to go to picnics in parks and hike in nature’.

What we fail to notice is that the reason we want this is to tap in to the life force that comes from these things, which is the erotic,” Sonja adds. “I believe that we could gain from having a more symbiotic relationship with nature, that relationship could definitely be erotic.”

Sonja resolves being ecosexual could also help solve the climate crisis too.
