The potential of opportunities in the cargo and logistics industry of the West African subregion is powerful beyond measure, Chairman of the McDan Group, Dr Daniel McKorley has stated.

Addressing the 4th CHINET Aviation and Cargo conference in Lagos, Nigeria on Thursday August 22, 2024 on the theme: “E-commerce and the Future of Aircargo in Africa”, Dr McKorley said the despite the potential opportunities, there are some significant challlenges that needs to be scaled in order to achieve that vision.

Dr McKorley enumerated the challenges that stakeholders in the sector should be interested in solving to attain satisfaction.
“To succeed in this region, we must overcome several obstacles, including: Political instability and security issues, Inadequate infrastructure, Bureaucratic red tape, complicated customs procedures, corruption, and the lack of standardization across countries”.

McDan also mentioned the many opportunities that exists in the subregion to propel growth especially in the air cargo space.

“The region’s economy is growing rapidly, with e-commerce expected to play
an increasingly important role in the future. This presents an opportunity for air
cargo to become a key component of the supply chain, as it can provide fast and
reliable delivery of goods across the continent” he said.

Dr Daniel McKorley urged the urgent need for an all stakeholders involvement to address the obstables.
“To capitalize on this opportunity, we must work together to address the challenges
of cargo and logistics in West Africa. This requires a concerted effort from governments, businesses, and individuals to invest in infrastructure, simplify customs procedures, and promote transparency and accountability” Dr McKorley urged.
