VIDEO: Sena Agbeko – Ghanaian Boxer Stopped In World Title Fight

In a thrilling Main Event at The Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota, WBA World Super Middleweight champion David “Osvary” Morrell Jr. successfully defended his title against Ghana’s Sena Agbeko, securing a decisive second-round stoppage on Saturday night.

Morrell, fighting in his adopted hometown of Minneapolis, dominated Agbeko in the second round, unleashing a barrage of power punches. Referee Mark Nelson intervened to protect Agbeko, calling a halt to the bout at 1:43 of the second round.

The Cuban-born Morrell, boasting a 10-0 record with nine knockouts, demonstrated his prowess as a 14-1 favourite in the final “Showtime Championship Boxing” broadcast, marking the network’s 37 years in the sport. On the other side, Ghanaian-born Sena Agbeko (28-3, 22 KOs) suffered his second knockout defeat as a professional.

Morrell’s commanding performance included a left hand that staggered Agbeko with 1:25 remaining in the second round. The onslaught continued, prompting the referee to step in and stop the fight as Agbeko found himself defenceless against Morrell’s relentless attack.

In the opening round, Morrell’s right hook and straight left found their mark early, setting the tone for the bout. Agbeko fought back but struggled to withstand Morrell’s offensive onslaught.

The scheduled April 22 bout was initially set to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas but faced a delay due to issues with Agbeko’s license application. The Nevada State Athletic Commission had initially denied Agbeko’s license, citing a saccular brain aneurysm detected during a pre-fight MRI. However, after subsequent clearance by two neurologists, Agbeko was licensed in May.

The victory solidifies Morrell’s standing in the super middleweight division, leaving fans and pundits eager to see his continued success in future bouts.
