Tolon MP Questions Reasoning Behind Leaked Tape Recording For IGP’s Removal
First Deputy Majority Whip in Ghana’s Parliament, Habib Iddrisu has questioned the reasoning behind the recording and subsequent leakage of an audio voice advocating the removal of Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare.
Mr Iddrisu who is also the MP for Tolon described the recording as unfortunate and deeply concerning wondered why such a thing would be done involving his own former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The lawmaker expressed his dismay Saturday morning on Accra based TV3’s talk-show, The Key Points that discussed the audio recording and the subsequent bipartisan Special Committee announced by the Speaker of Parliament to investigate its contents.
He also revealed that the former Northern regional chairman of the party, Bugri Naabu was also part of the recording.
“My former Regional Chairman’s name is part of it. That is Bugri Naabu, he was the NPP Northern Regional chairman in 2016 when I was a Parliamentary candidate. It is rather unfortunate that this recording has happened” Hon Habib Iddrisu stated.
When the MP was asked if he could confirm Bugri Naabu’s voice on the recording, he stated pointed out that he was not the first person to make such a claim that Mr Naabu was part emphasizing that he finds the audio recording deeply concerning and questioned the motive behind its creation and subsequent leakage into the public domain.
The contents of the recording, which have sparked intense debates and prompted an official parliamentary probe, expose a covert plot to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP) before the 2024 elections.
According to the voices on the tape, IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare is not favouring the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which would impede the ruling party’s chances of securing an unprecedented third consecutive term if he remained in charge of the Police service during the upcoming 2024 elections.
While it has been established that the individuals captured on the audio recording include a police commissioner and a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), this is the first time someone close to Bugri Naabu has confirmed his presence on the recording.
The leaked audio recording has ignited widespread interest, leading to an official parliamentary investigation and raising questions about the integrity of the political process as the 2024 elections draw near.
