Stephen Appiah & Wembley Reaches Out To Flood Victims

October 26, 2023

Former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah joined forces with Wembley Construction to provide essential relief items to those affected by the recent flood caused by the Akosombo dam spillage in the Volta Region.

The communities of Battor and Mepe in the North Tongu District were among the recipients of this benevolent gesture, and their Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, lauded Appiah’s humanitarian effort.

Ablakwa expressed his appreciation by writing on X, formerly Twitter: “The legendary Stephen ‘Tornado’ Appiah is not only blessed with exceptionally talented feet; more importantly, he is an amazing human being with an awesome heart.”

He went on to thank Stephen Appiah, Wembley Construction, and Nathaniel Attoh for their support, emphasising that “North Tongu will never forget your kindness.”

The Akosombo Dam spillage had devastating consequences, causing damage to infrastructure and farmlands in the affected communities. This resulted in the displacement of thousands of residents and the loss of properties worth millions of Cedis. Approximately 40,000 residents are currently in need of assistance to meet their basic survival needs.

Many of the affected individuals are finding temporary shelter with friends and family, while others are being accommodated in relief shelters. The government, in collaboration with NADMO (National Disaster Management Organization) and other stakeholders, is actively providing relief items to support the affected victims during this challenging time.
