Speaker Bagbin Express Worry About Eroding Public Trust In Leadership
The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Rt. Hon Speaker, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has bemoaned the increasing rate of eroding trust in leaders and the declining public interest in state institutions that are supposed to drive national development.
Mr Bagbin made these observations at the ongoing National Development Conference under the auspices of the Church of Pentecost at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central region.

The Speaker has therefore challenged leaders to conduct themselves in a manner that is beyond reproach and uphold the highest standards of ethics and morality to engender public trust and confidence.
He also proposed a prayer conferences to be organise across all 16 regions of the country saying it is a very significant initiative that will help renew the minds and hearts of Ghanaians and subsequently lead to a better country.

“Last year, I had a conversation with a number of men of God and I did propose that there was urgent need for us to have prayer conferences from region to region in all the 16 regions.”
“This is necessary, we need to not just have a change of mind, but a change of heart,” he said.
He commended the Church of Pentecost for their effort and acceptance of his proposal and for organizing such an event that brings all stakeholders together.
The two-day conference is under the theme “Moral Vision And National Development”.

The Conference brought together key state functionaries including Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo, Former Presidents, John Agyekum Kuffour, John Dramani Mahama, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, the clergy, Traditional Leaders, Representatives of the National Chief Imam, Heads of Professional bodies. Security Services, MMDAs, CSOs just to mention but a few.

Some Members of Parliament who were in attendance include the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu, Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan, Ibrahim Ahmed, Freda Prempeh, Helen Adjoa Ntoso, Dr. Emmanuel Marfo, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh and Mavis Hawah Koomson.
The rest are Rev John Ntim Fordjour, Kwasi Acquah and many more.
The Speaker of Parliament called off parliamentary sitting on Wednesday, July 26,2023 to enable members of Parliament attend the conference which he described as very important national exercise for the lawmakers.
