Seth Terkper Inspects Abandoned Projects in Anyaa Sowutuom Constituency

September 10, 2024

Former Finance Minister, Seth Terkper has undertaken a tour of the Anyaa Sowutuom constituency to assess the status of various developmental projects initiated under the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

The visit aimed to draw attention to the stalled and abandoned projects since the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration took office.

Mr Terkper was led on the tour by the Anyaa Sowutuom NDC Deputy Communications Officer Ralph Apetorgbor, after the launch of the book ‘For The Records’, which Apetorgbor authored. The book highlights the developmental achievements of the NDC in the Ga Central Municipal Area.

During the tour, Mr. Terkper inspected key sites, including the abandoned Ablekuma-Newtown Hospital, the non-operational Abaase market, and a public toilet facility—all initiated under the NDC administration but left uncompleted.

Other abandoned projects include the Olebu Community Health and Planning Services (CHPS) Compound and the Anyaa bus terminal, which were completed by the NDC administration but have remained unused since the New Patriotic Party (NPP) assumed office on January 7, 2017.

Expressing concern over the state of the projects, Mr. Terkper criticized the current administration for failing to continue these initiatives, which he believes are essential for the socio-economic development of the constituency and Ghana as a whole.

“These projects were meant to uplift the lives of the people in Anyaa Sowutuom and nearby areas. It’s disheartening to see them deteriorate with no effort to complete them,” Seth Terkper remarked.

He urged the government to prioritize the completion of these projects, highlighting their importance to the local community.

“The people of Anyaa Sowutuom deserve to benefit from the taxes they pay and the promises made to them,” Mr. Terkper stressed.

Mr. Apetorgbor, in his address, explained that his motivation for writing the book was to dispel false narratives surrounding the NDC’s projects in Anyaa Sowutuom.

He expressed concern that without accurate documentation, the party’s accomplishments could be overshadowed by misinformation.

“This publication is more than just a collection of photographs and writings; it is a comprehensive record of our achievements,” Mr. Apetorgbor said.

He highlighted that the book served as a response to claims made by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), demonstrating the impact of the NDC’s previous government in the constituency.
