Sarkodie Admits Using Songs To Address Concerns In The Past, ‘Try Me’ Is Not First

July 21, 2023

Ghanaian twi rapper, Sarkodie has admitted using songs to respond to various concerns in the past and that his recent dish track, ‘Try Me’ is not the first of such and stated that he does not engage in certain topics because they have the tendency of leading him loose his composure.

Speaking in a recent interview, Sarkodie explained that while he doesn’t shy away from addressing certain issues through his music, there are some topics that he dislikes discussing publicly because they may evoke strong emotions.

“This is not the first time I’ve done records to address certain issues, I don’t know but there are certain things I hate to feed into especially speaking about it because maybe I might lose my cool,” the Happy Day rapper said.

He highlighted the importance of choosing his words carefully, especially when it involves personal matters between two individuals.

Regarding his Diss Track in response to Yvonne Nelson’s memoir, “Try Me,” Sarkodie emphasized that he was not necessarily proud of releasing the track.

“I am not going sit here and say I am super proud of it, the thing is just in a moment how I felt whether be my truth there should have been a way you could have said it that’s why I don’t like to speak about it because this is a conversation between two people,” he pointed out.

However, at the moment, he felt compelled to express his truth and emotions through music.

He acknowledged that there could have been other ways to handle the situation, but the track served as an outlet for him to share his side of the story.

“We could have a conversation if you want to talk about it because it involves me as well,” he indicated.

Sarkodie expressed his reservation about engaging in public discussions on sensitive matters, as he believes some individuals may take advantage of his reluctance to respond.

He explained that people may assume he will not speak up and use that to their advantage.

Nonetheless, he acknowledged that occasionally, he feels the need to use music as a means of responding to certain situations.

“People know that Sark doesn’t speak, people think they’ll say something and know Sark is not gonna speak and is gonna get away with it so once in a while…” he said.
