Religious & Traditional Leaders Storm Parliament Ahead Of Debate on Anti-LGBTQI++ Bill
Some Religious and Traditional leaders across the country have stormed Parliament to witness debate by lawmakers on the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021 as it goes through second reading.
Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin who acknowledged their presence said the Bill is very important on the hearts of Ghanaians.
He noted that current the current legislative framework of the country does not make adequate provisions to cover every segment of society.
The passage of the bill he noted will address the lacuna in the legal framework.
The Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs has held nine stakeholders engagement or public hearings on the Bill which is expected to go through second reading today July 5, 2023 .
A sponsor of the Bill and MP for Ho West, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah moved a motion for the second reading the second reading.
Chairman of the committee and MP for Asante Akim Central, Kwame Anyimedu-Antwi is currently presenting the committee’s report as the other MPs wait consciously for their turn to debate.
