Panic As Earth Tremor Hits Parts Of Accra Sunday Morning
A sudden earth tremor jolted parts of Accra on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at approximately 7:20 am, creating a momentary wave of panic among residents in various suburbs.
The tremor, lasting only a few seconds, prompted some residents who are reported to have swiftly evacuate their homes to open spaces for safety.
Fortunately, there are no reported injuries or damages to property as a result of the seismic activity.
This is the second time Ghana’s capital AccraΒ is experiencing an earth tremor this year after the earlier one recorded on 10 March 2023 according to the Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GGSA) measured 2.8 on the Ritcher scale.
Residents of areas such as Weija-Gbawe, Nsakina, Obeyeyie, Kasoa, Sowutuom, Sarpeiman, Ngleshie Amanfro and La who experienced the tremor have started sharing their experiences on social media.
Similar scenes unfolded in other affected areas, with citizens sharing their experiences of the event on social media platforms, notably on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Some recounted the brief but intense moments when the earth beneath them seemed to shift.
Meanwhile, some residents of the worst affected areas have been narrating their experiences to Accra-based Citi FM/TV.
βI was sitting in my living room when I felt the house start to shake,β said one resident at Weija SCC.
βI was cooking in the kitchen when I heard a shaking,β said another resident.
βI was in bed when I felt the shaking,β said a third resident. β
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, urging citizens to remain vigilant while assuring the public that there is no immediate cause for heightened concern.
The Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GSSA) is yet to confirm the magnitude of the incident.
