Performing at NDC Youth Manifesto launch was only business, not an endorsement– Olivetheboy

August 14, 2024

Rising Ghanaian star Olivetheboy has spoken out to address the buzz surrounding his recent performance at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Manifesto launch.

Amidst rumours of his alleged affiliation with the opposition party, Olivetheboy clarified that his appearance was purely professional.

In a recent interview on Okay FM, the Goodsin singer stressed that his performance was not an endorsement of the NDC.

He explained that he received an invitation from Sharaf Mahama, son of former President John Mahama, and viewed the opportunity as a business engagement, rather than a political endorsement.

Olivetheboy emphasized that his focus is on his music and career, and he will not be swayed by political affiliations. He seeks to maintain a neutral stance, entertaining audiences across the political spectrum. By setting the record straight, Olivetheboy aims to quell the controversy and continue to build his fan base.

“I was hired to perform, just like I am billed at Afrochella or any other event. My performance is not tied to any political endorsement.

“If NPP calls me today, I will perform. If CPP comes tomorrow, I will still go and perform. I have friends from all political parties, and if I have been hired to perform, I surely will.”

Responding to the backlash, Olivetheboy stood firm, acknowledging that while some critics may raise eyebrows at his choice, his devoted fan base recognizes that his top priorities are his music career and providing for himself.

He emphasized that his loyal supporters understand the importance of making a living and advancing his artistic endeavours, and they will not be swayed by misconceptions.

“I see all the critics and I don’t even bother myself to respond, my fans will do that for me. I also have fans who know it’s purely business because I need to make some money,” he concluded.

Perhaps to safeguard his burgeoning music career, Olivetheboy has been compelled to address the controversy surrounding his political affiliation. This comes as many believe that artists risk jeopardising their careers when they venture into politics.
