NDC Shames GBA For ‘Turning Bar Conference’ Into NPP Campaign Grounds
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has shamed executives of the Ghana Bar Association for what it described as turning the 2023 annual Ghana Bar Conference into a political campaign platform, for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to campaign against its 2024 flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.
This follows pronouncements made against the former president by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo when addressed the 2023 Ghana Bar Association Annual Conference in Cape Coast on Monday, September 11, 2023.
In a direct respond to his predecessor who previously accused him of being a clearing agent by always clearing any appointee of his accused of corruption without due process, President AkufO Addo remarked; ‘I’m not going to be a clearing agent president.’
President Akufo-Addo also on the same platform launched a scattering attack on John Mahama who accused him of packing the judiciary with NPP functionaries.
He described Mr Mahama’s comments as “very dangerous” to the progress of the country and urged the public to hold him accountable for his “reckless” comments by rejecting him in the 2024 general elections..
“I have gone into this matter in detail because of a new issue which has been introduced into our public discourse by no less a public figure than the fourth president of the fourth republic, John Dramani Mahama who has told the world that I have packed the courts with so-called NPP judges and that one of the key purposes a putative NDC victory in 2024 will be to enable him to balance the courts with so-called NDC judges.”
“Not only are these concepts new in our public discourse but they are also extremely dangerous and represent the brazen attack on the independence of the judiciary by allegedly responsible politicians,” Akufo-Addo said.
But in a sharp rebuttal, Edudzi took to his Facebook saying “The Ghana Bar Conference has become a dubious campaign platform for the NPP to campaign against John Mahama in the 2024 election. The evidence is that Akufo Addo, at the Conference, urged voters to vote against John Mahama,” he wrote.
