Mass Teacher Licensure Exams Failure: Ntim Fordjour Chairs Probe Committee
A Deputy Minister of Education, Rev John Ntim FordjourT will chair a seven-member committee set up by the ministry investigate the recent mass failures that characterised the Teacher Licensure Examination.
Only 1,277 representing 16.5 percent out of a total of 7,728 who sat for the Teacher Licensure Examinations conducted in May, 2023 passed the exam.
All the candidates had sat for the exam at least twice, with some sitting as many as nine times.
The release of the results led to an uproar over the performance of the prospective teachers.
Following the failures, the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) called for measures to prevent such mass failures in future.
Education Think Tank, Africa Education Watch also proposed for a limit to be imposed on the number of times a candidate can write the licensure exams to ensure that professional teaching standards are enhanced.
The Rev John Ntim Fordjour committee has four weeks to present its report to the minister for Education.
