Malawian Woman Caught With 8.5kg Worth Of Cocaine
International media is reporting that authorities in Bangladesh have detained a 35-year-old Malawian woman, Nomthandazo Towera Soko, with around 8.5 kilograms of cocaine worth about £550,000 pounds at the Dhakas Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Thursday.
It is also reported that Soko is a regular visitor to that country as a shoe and garment trader “and came to the country this year under the same pretext.
“Soko was planning to check into a residential hotel in Dhaka but was arrested before she could leave the airport, according to Tanveer Mumtaz, director of operations and intelligence at the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC).”
She was arrested based on a tip-off two days ago to the DNC about a cocaine shipment arriving in Bangladesh.
Soko unfortunately drew suspicion to herself due to the weight of her luggage. Upon inspection, authorities found 1kg of cocaine in a folder she was carrying and subsequently discovered another 8kilograms of the drug wrapped in carbon paper hidden inside her luggage.
Further investigations revealed the involvement of several local individuals and another foreign national in the smuggling operation.
