Lithium Agreement Is The Best In A Long While- Sir Sam Jonah
Celebrated businessman and globally acclaimed mining Executive, Sir Sam Esson Jonah has intimated that the current mining agreement for Lithium exploration signed between the Government of Ghana and Atlantic Mining Corporation is the best agreement Ghana has entered into in a long while.
The development comes on the back of concerns by a cross section of Ghanaians that the agreement does not serve the best interest of the country.
Speaking in a public engagement, Sir Sam Jonah revealed that per negotiations entered into in the past by several governments in terms of minerals exploration and that is a good point to use the new agreement as a leverage for future negotiations.
” As a mining professional and Executive of several years standing and using our previous mining agreements as a reference point, the primary shareholding of 13% government interest in the new lithium venture gives better value for the country despite concerns by some stakeholders both in catchment area of the mine and Civil society space.
Lithium is now the new light metal drawing global recognition and economic investment ,so we must hasten slowly in terms of the full benefits the country will derive from estimated 15 years lifespan of the lease especially as the upcoming green economy will propel more demand for electric cars and more demand for lithium resources which are key components in manufacturing batteries for E-Vehicles”.
Sir Sam Jonah is an accomplished minerals Engineer , globally acclaimed mining Executive of over 3 decades and was the First Black Managing Director of Anglogold Ashanti in Ghana.
