Leaked Tape Witnesses To Cross-Examine Each Other If..– Atta Akyea
The parliamentary ad-hoc committee probing the audio leaked tape allegedly plotting the removal of the Inspector General of Police , Dr George Akufo-Dampare is likely to allow the individuals at the centre of the whole saga cross-examine themselves all things being equal as they meet face to face before the committee today September 13, 2023 in-camera.
The chairman of the committee, Samuel Atta Akyea who hinted of the possibility in a bid to establish the facts of the leaked tape in assisting the legislature make appropriate recommendations in reforming the Ghana Police Service if need be.
He said this in an interview on Accra based, citi fm Tuesday evening after the committee’s public hearing where the IGP responded to the allegations made against him by some three senior officers caught on the leaked tape including COP George Alex Mensah and Supt George Asare when they appeared.
“We are looking at it critically…..,why not, at the end of the day here you are for the first time you are facing your accuser. What questions do you want to ask your accuser? And who will run away from the one who is trying to embarrass him without asking him very pertinent questions which will inure to his innocence.”
“So these are the areas that we are looking at critically and then we might want to say that well go ahead and ask him all the questions in the world and when you have any counter-viewing evidence bring it across,” he added.
Meanwhile, the committee has also invited the National Security Minister, Kan Dapaah to appear before it on Wednesday as it works at unravelling the facts.
The former Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bugri Naabu and the three police officers have all been invited to reappear before the committee on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 with their lawyers.
“The witnesses should come back tomorrow with their lawyers. The IGP should come with his lawyers, the Minister of National Security should show up with his lawyers and proceedings will continue,” he stated.
