Hackman Owusu Agyemang Bemoans Lack Of Passion To Serve In Current Generation
A founding member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP),Mr, Hackman Owusu-Agyemang has said the current generation has become self-centred to the detriment of the country.
Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, the chairman of the national council of elders of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said the passion to serve the country no longer exists in the current generation.
Owusu-Agyemang said he is disheartened with what is happening in Ghana now adding that most citizens have become self-centered to the detriment of the country.
Speaking on Asaase 99.5, the astute politician was, however, confident that the country will eventually rediscover and build itself in the spirit of its forebearers
“The passion to serve the nation, to be in the public service is no longer there and I think we’ve become too focused on our own selfish interest…I believe in the fullness of time, we should be able to rediscover ourselves…
“I’m dismayed by what is happening now…” Owusu-Agyemang said.
Punish offenders
“I think the time has come for Ghanaians to appreciate the fact that this nation can only be built by ourselves and that the interests of the nation should be put way above everything else.”
The former Foreign Affairs Minister under the Kufuor administration also called for a more rigorous system to punish people who have stolen funds belonging to the state.
“… those that have raided the treasury of this nation with impunity need to be punished. Yes, and if we don’t set up that system of doing things we cannot develop … and the leadership must provide the way out.”
