GREDA Gives Sam George Given 7-Days To Retract And Apologise

The Executive Council of the Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA) has described the Ningo Prampram MP, Sam George’s comment on real estate as unfortunate and defamatory.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newfile on Saturday, Mr. George alleged that the real estate business in Ghana is used for money laundering.

According to him, it is a means to clean ‘dirty money’ acquired through illegitimate means.

“Real estate business in Ghana is money laundering. If our authorities want to deal with it, they will deal with it,” he said.

But in a press statement issued by GREDA on July 25, the Association disagreed with the lawmaker’s assertion, noting that his comment is “an affront to our genuine hardworking members for this Honourable MP to make such unguarded and irresponsible utterance without offering any proof whatsoever.”

This, they explained is because members of GREDA “are hardworking Ghanaians who every day have to battle with the economic conditions in the country as every other business sector is doing.”

“Members of GREDA contribute significantly to the economy, among others, we provide roofs over the heads of Ghanaians and this is helping to reduce the housing deficit. We also create employment for both skilled and unskilled labor in this country.”

They are, therefore, demanding an apology from him.

“We demand an immediate unqualified apology and retraction of this unfortunate statement within 7 days of this press statement,” GREDA stressed.

They further noted that “We, however, wish to serve him notice and notice is hereby served that we reserve our right to seek redress should he not retract his unfortunate comments and apologise accordingly.”
