Gov’t Denied Contracting Land Guards To Protect State Lands
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has denied allegations that it has contracted the services of land guards to protect its lands.
According to the ministry, the government, including the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, does not engage the services of land guards.
The denial comes on the back of www.eagleghana.com and other media publications quoting Member for Tamale North, Alhassan Suyuhini for stating that the Chief Director of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Prof Patrick Agyesinyale had revealed to the Parliament’s select committee om Lands and Forestry that the ministry, the Ghana Armed Forces as well as the the Ghana Police Service engaged land guards to protect their lands.
A statement issued Monday July 17, 2023 by the Ministry and signed by the Chief Director explained that it legally appointed Aynok Holding Limited, a registered limited liability company, through its agency, the Lands Commission, to assist in reclaiming encroached government lands and that this partnership has been in place since 2012.
The release emphasized that all procedures followed by the government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, adhere to legal processes for the reclamation of encroached state lands.
The government, the statement said, remains committed to addressing land-related issues through lawful means.
