GIADEC’s Kojo Yankah Has Died
Head of the office of the chief executive officer of the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC), Kojo Yankah, has died.
Kojo Yankah is said to have fallen ill on Sunday 10 December and sadly died in the early hours of Saturday, 16 December 2023 at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).
He has worked at GIADEC since 2018 until his untimely death. In the course of his work at GIADEC, he has spearheaded the company’s efforts aimed at building stakeholder consensus ahead of Ghana’s bauxite exploration and value addition.
As a result of this, he has built very strong relations with the media, and civil society organizations (CSOs), among others on behalf of GIADEC as the organization strives to build an integrated aluminum industry in Ghana.
His friends in the media space have taken to social media to express their shock and disbelief at the news of his sudden death.
“This world is just crazy, such an affable personality, I remember my first interaction with him. May his gentle soul rest in peace” a post of social media read.
“Death is wicked! How can such a solid guy be taken away just like that? Don’t want to believe it” another post read.
Mr Yankah last posted on his Facebook Wall on Saturday, 9 December 2023. In the post, he shared his workout video and a picture of his family where he wrote the following; “Inside Out!!” against the workout post and “Elohim is our help!!” above the family photo.
However, on Thursday, 7 December 2023, he posted this thought provoking piece; “We have two lives, and the second begins when we realize we only have one”. In other words, suffering is necessary until you realise its unnecessary, then it becomes optional. Selah!!”
Mr Yankah obtained his Bachelor of Arts (BA), degree in Political Science and Government from the University of Ghana in 2001, and in 2009, he was awarded a Master of Science degree in Public Policy from Queen Mary University of London.
