Ghanaians Urge To Promote Culture of Digital Safety As 2023 Cybersecurity Awareness Month Is Launched

September 4, 2023

The 2023 edition of the National Cyber Security Awareness Month has been launched in Accra with a call on all residents in Ghana to promote the culture of digital safety in all their endeavours.

Deputy Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ama Pomaa Boateng who made the call said the culture of digital safety will foster responsible online practices, cyber security awareness, and the protection of personal information.

Speaking at the Media Launch of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, Madam Boateng said many threats in the digital space call for a multisectoral approach to maximise the high-risk cyber threat in Ghana and the world over.

She said the global digital revolution has enormous benefits, but nonetheless, individuals and businesses should be mindful of the inherent risk associated with cyber security.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month is a collaboration between government and private industry to raise awareness about digital security and empower everyone to protect their personal data from digital forms of crime. Many individuals have fallen prey to cyber threats, a situation which calls for concern. It is critical for individuals and businesses to understand the changing dynamics in cyberspace to stay safe.

The Deputy Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ama Pomaa Boateng, called on the media to help promote cyber security-related issues as they demand public attention.

Director General, Cyber Security Authority, Dr Albert Antwi-Boasiako, said there is the need to raise cyber security awareness as it is an important dimension of the digital society. He asked the public not to click on any link they come across on social media and to also contact the Authority for any fraud incidents.

The President of the Ghana Journalists Association, GJA, Albert Dwumfour, said the increasing rate of cyber fraud and security issues in Ghana and the world over are escalating at an alarming rate.

He assured the public of the media’s commitment to help educate the public on the significance of digital security.

The National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) 2023 is set to take off from October 1–31, 2023, across the country.

The month-long event is under the theme, “Promoting A Culture of Digital Safety”.
