GFA Supports Clubs & Communities Ravaged By Dam Spillage With GHS100k

November 1, 2023

The GFA Foundation has extended a helping hand to victims of the Akosombo and Kpong Dams spillage by offering GHS100,000.

This support is intended for the benefit of clubs associated with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and communities that have been impacted by the spillage. The funds will be allocated towards procuring essential relief items like student mattresses, toiletries, and food items (such as rice, gari, sugar, and sachet water), which will be distributed to the victims residing in the severely affected regions.

The GHS100,000 has been promptly transferred to the Volta Regional Football Association, empowering them to carry out these relief efforts on behalf of the Ghana Football Association within a span of one week. The Volta Regional Football Association operates as the football administrative body responsible for nurturing and fostering football development in both the Volta and Oti regions.

Upon conducting on-site assessments, the Regional Football Association has been actively providing support, with daily updates and reports shared with the headquarters in Accra. This partnership has been coordinated under the direction and approval of the GFA Foundation’s Board of Trustees and the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association.

GFA President Kurt Okraku conveyed the Association’s heartfelt sympathy for the spillage victims and expressed their readiness to contribute to collaborative endeavours aimed at mitigating the effects of future dam spillages.

The GFA Foundation, established in April 2023, operates as the entity responsible for overseeing social investment and sustainability initiatives and charitable projects and programs conducted by the Ghana Football Association.

The GFA Foundation has already initiated various activities and projects since its official launch, showing its commitment to making a positive impact in communities across Ghana.
