Electrochem Ghana Has Not Taken Away Livelihoods Of Ada Residents- Management
The management of Electrochem Ghana limited, a subsidiary of the McDan Group has reacted to false claims to the effect that, the company has taken away the livelihoods of residents of Ada.
Following a notice order issued by the Ada East District Assembly to illegal operators on the legally acquired concession to vacate for the investor, Electrochem Ghana to start operations early next year, an online platform, GH Environment.com published a propagandist claim titled: McDan Electrochem: Indigenous Ada salt farmers face eviction on 31st December,2023.
In the said article, the writer made several inaccurate assertions aimed at tarnishing the hard won reputation of the company.
Data availbale to EAGLEGHANA.COM from management on the exploits of the company show a contrary view to the assertions made in the publication.
The company is actually committed to protecting the livelihoods of the indigenes around the Ada Songor enclave.
Even before the commencement of its commercial activities after acquiring the leasehold agreement and parliamentary approval, Electrochem Ghana held several engagements and has continuously held engagements with communities around the 41,000 acre concession.
As a demonstration of it’s believe in inclusiveness, Electrochem has integrated these communities into all its operations.
For the avoidance of doubt, Electrochem has demonstrated its commitment to carry the communities along, by providing each of these communities with eleven pans for the storage of brime (sea water) to enhance their production levels.
As a responsible mining firm, Electrochem Ghana has set aside specific zones within the enclave to allow for community mining activities for residents in order not to deny them of their regular mining activities.
In addition to the designated community mining sites, residents are also allowed to mine in other places within the enclave but are however expected to do so according to permissible international standards.
Again, Electrochem Ghana the company has also signed purchase contract agreements to provide ready market for the salt produced by the local miners.
Currently, more than 3000 people mostly young people from the Ada traditional area have been gainfully employed by the company. The number is expected to increase to 7000 when the Ada East concession takes effect early January, 2024.
The company launched a Ghc 3 million support scheme and provided interest free loan to women businesses in the area.
As community conscious business which places, premium on corporate social responsibility, Electrochem Ghana is constructing a sports village project on a 150 acre land in the community and has also constructed several water closet toilet facilities for communities among several other initiatives.
It is therefore unfortunate for anybody to suggest that, the company has taken away the livelihoods of residence of Ada.
Electrochem Ghana limited is committed to the development of the local economy of Ada and the country at large.
