Black Sherif and his bold sense of fashion
Some people have a unique way of announcing their arrival and presence in a given space and they do it in such a way that leaves you wondering about the magic behind what they do.
Just four years after popping up on the music scene, the whiff coming with his brand has become so pervasive and unmistakable, giving a clear indication of what is to unfold from the camp of the gifted singer and rapper.
Mohammed Ismail Sherif who is better known within the showbiz and entertainment arena as Black Sherif or Blacko, has evolved at the speed of light into a viral sensation and one of Ghana’s hottest music stars pushing Ghana’s music to a dizzying height.
For him to come displacing many who had preceded him in the game just a few years after his debut in 2019 and to win this year’s edition of the coveted Vodafone Ghana Music Award (VGMA) as Artiste of the Year, speaks volumes about his craftsmanship and the uncommon energy behind what he is doing.

At this year’s award, he beat stiff competition from seven others namely Piesie Esther, Sarkodie, Joe Mettle, Stonebwoy, Camidoh, KiDi and King Promise to win the award.
In addition to snatching the ultimate from the other contenders, he also took home awards for the Best Music Video Award, Most Popular Song of the Year and Best Hip-hop Song of the Year with his ‘Kwaku The Traveller’ songs which has been dripping and drooling from the lips of both the young and the old. His songs, “First Sermon” and “Second Sermon”, released in May and July 2021 smashed the hindrances in his way and became instant hits, shooting him into recognition and prominence.
As he continues to distinguish himself on the music scene, one thing has become very noticeable about the music star, his bold sense of fashion which is fast setting a trend and getting more people talking.
Some call it street fashions but to others it is simply his way of stepping back in time as if to reintroduced the old fashionable way of dressing, and it seems to be working for him as he continues to get mentions, not only for his arts but for the unusual wardrobe which blends so well with his lanky frame.
Blacko has indeed taken the Ghana music and fashion industry by storm.
