‘Au Revoir’- Nii Lantey Vanderpuye Bows Out Of Parliament

The incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the Odododiodiodo constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has bowed out of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary race.

In effect, Mr Vanderpuye will not return to the law making chamber as a lawmaker representing the people of Odododiodiodo because he has not fill his nomination papers to contest the party’s primaries for an opportunity to re-contest the seat on the ticket of the NDC in the 2024 general elections.

Chairman of the NDC Election Committee in the Odododiodio Constituency, Nii Adjebu Lamptey who announced this said three aspirants filed for the contest scheduled for October 31, 2023.

He thus advised the supporters of the three aspirants to be circumspect about their utterances during the campaigns.

According to him, it’s an internal contest and they must comport themselves for the exercise. 

“NDC members and supporters, what we are doing now is internal competition, and we pray that all of them will comport themselves so that we can have a peaceful election.”

“The filing of nominations has been very peaceful, and we expect that it will continue like that. On Friday there will be vetting at the regional party office, and on October 31, the elections will come on as planned.”

Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye

Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, born June 11, 1965 is a former Sports Minister and the current Member of Parliament of the Odododiodoo constituency.

He was elected as MP during the 2012 elections, where he faced off against Victor Okaikoi of the New Patriotic Party and has since retain the seat for the NDC (2012-2024).

Between 1990 and 2004, he worked at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation as a sports presenter and commentator where he became the Deputy Head of Sports.

Between 2005 and 2008, he was the Head of Sports at Network Broadcasting Limited.

He is an alumnus of Bechem Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School and Mfantsipim School, Cape Coast. He has a Diploma in Public Relations, holds a Master’s degree in Governance & Leadership) from GIMPA and a B.A. in English, Philosophy, and Classics from the University of Ghana.

Hon Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye is currently the Ranking Member on the Local Government and Rural Development Committee of Parliament.
