Assin North MP Express Gratitutde To All

Member of Parliament for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson, has expressed a heartfelt gratitude to his constituents for the massive support and the trust reposed in him.

The MP said their prayers and support over the last few years while being subjected to many court processes merely because of his desire to serve them have been immeasurable and looks forward to serving them and the country as a whole in the 8th Parliament.

Mr Gyakye Quayson In a message of appreciation also expressed gratitude to flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama for his continuous support without which he will not succeed to be the MP for Assin North.

“I also thank all national, regional, constituency and branch executives and in fact, the entire rank and file of my beloved party, the great NDC who have supported me throughout this journey. To my hardworking campaign team that has been with me through thick and thin, I say thank you.”

“I am grateful to the Speaker of Parliament and the NDC parliamentary caucus for their warm welcome and their unwavering support throughout this journey.”

James Gyakye Quayson took the Oath of Allegiance and Oath of a Member of Parliament on Tuesday 4th July, 2023 administered by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.

This followed his victory in the Assin North by-election on June 27, which was occasioned by a ruling of the Supreme Court that annulled his election as MP in the 2020 polls.

The Oaths, according to him, entail a solemn affirmation to bear true faith and allegiance to the country; to uphold the sovereignty and integrity of the country; to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution; and to discharge his duties faithfully and conscientiously.

He averred that to have the unique opportunity to serve the good people of Assin North as their MP is a tremendous privilege and honour.

“I am eternally grateful to the almighty God and the good people of Assin North for their vote of confidence in me to represent them in this historic eighth Parliament,” he added.

He acknowledged the enormity of the responsibility given and pledged his commitment to work with all his strength to justify the trust reposed in him by the people of Assin North.

Ghana, he said, is today confronted with many challenges including massive unemployment, economic bankruptcy, macroeconomic instability, corruption, environmental degradation, declining education standards, and over-politicized state institutions.

“These challenges call for Parliament to be more assertive in its oversight, lawmaking and deliberative functions.”

“I pledge to work assiduously with my colleagues in the Minority Caucus to confront these challenges to enhance growth, economic opportunity, shared prosperity, and to advance our march towards equal rights, equal justice, equal citizenship, and equal opportunity for all.”

He averred that as daunting as the challenges are, he is optimistic about the prospects of a better future and expressed confidence the rich pool of human and natural resources at the disposal of the country can be harnessed to achieve broad-based and sustainable growth.

This, he said, calls for leveraging the skills and talents of all citizens, including those who hold other citizenships and added, “I, therefore, look forward to working on and supporting the Constitution (Amendment) bill, 2021 in this endeavour.”
