Artists Receive Meagre Revenue From Music Streams In Ghana As Compared To Oustiders- Bullgod
Popular artists manager, Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson commonly known as “Bullgod” has expressed worry about the meagre revenue Ghanaian Artists receives from the various Music streaming platforms.
He blamed the situation on expensive cost of data and poor network connectivity in the country and aurgued that, most of the music streams local artsits get for their works in terms of revenue comes from people living outside the country unlike their Nigerian counterparts.
The artists manger has therefore encouraged artists to as a matter priority take into consideration people living in remote areas of the country in promoting their music since such people do not have easy access to the internet connectivity as well as the high cost of data.
Bullgod indicated that it is easier for ghanaians living in the diaspora to get access to the music streams of local artists because data is less expensive and network coverage is greater in those countires as compared to those resident in the country.
The Artist manager who said these during an interview on TV3 last Friday December8, 2023 noted the noted that Nigerian artists are doing well.
“ Once you go on Tiktok, the first song you hear is a nigerian song” Bullgod said. “ Nigerians have been able to conquer the music promotion market…and they are doing well” he said.
According to him, one reason Nigerian artists have gained significant media exposure, is due to the fact that, they have been able to sell and promote their craft regardless of the amount of streams on the platforms.
He then gave a clear plot as to how irrevelant streaming platforms could be operated in areas where network connection is unfavourable. “Nobody sitting in Tarkwa or wherever, where network is even bad, will stream your music ” he said.
“Let’s talk about the matters and these are facts. Check your streams and you’ll know all is from outside. If you check, the reason why we don’t stream our music is because data is expensive. If the artistes are genuine with their analytics, they will tell you that most of their streams are from outside. Ghanaians living in the diaspora,” he added.
