An Empty Blood Bank?
Blood is a specialized body fluid. It has four main components: plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Blood has many different functions, including transporting oxygen and nutrients to the lungs and tissues (American Society of Hematology 2022).
Well, we cannot underestimate the importance of blood in our lives. Blood brings oxygen and nutrients to all the parts of the body so they can keep working. Blood carries carbon dioxide and other waste materials to the lungs, kidneys, and digestive system to be removed from the body. Blood also fights infections, and carries hormones around the body. Blood is the liquid like petrol that runs the day-to-day activity/ administration of the Human Body.

Now the problem,
Blood cannot be manufactured in any industry, nor can it be replaced or substituted for anything else, human blood is human blood and, it’s our duty as citizens to donate blood to hospitals etc which would be used to save the lives of those in need of it. When they are stored in fridges, they have a lifespan of up to 42 days. I for one have donated more than 30 times and I did that for free and in the good conscience of a patriotic citizen of Ghana.

Just a few weeks ago, some hospitals and the Ghana blood bank came out to inform Ghanaians that some hospitals lack blood and they needed the help of citizens from 18- 60 years to donate to hospitals and clinics to save lives.
I’ve seen people who never thought they would ever need blood, but when it was crucial, they were roaming and pleading for others to donate freely for them to replace the one they’ve taken. We must devote ourselves to serving our society through selflessly donating blood to fill up our hospital’s blood banks to save more lives.
