Akufo-Addo To Commissions Koforidua Sports Stadium In December
President Akufo-Addo is scheduled to commission the Koforidua Sports Stadium on December 19, 2023.
The successful completion of this ambitious project marks a significant step in the nation’s efforts to revamp its sports infrastructure.
The Koforidua Sports Stadium is part of a broader initiative, the “10 Multipurpose Youth Resource Centres Policy,” aimed at enhancing the availability of top-quality stadiums across the country.
The journey to rejuvenate this multipurpose sports center commenced in 2018 when President Akufo-Addo ceremoniously broke ground for the reconstruction, breathing new life into a facility that had been left abandoned for several years.
However, the project encountered challenges, including delays attributed to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Nonetheless, the government has now achieved the successful completion of the Koforidua facility. The stadium is poised to be commissioned as one of five stadia by 2024.
The Koforidua Sports Stadium boasts an array of state-of-the-art amenities, including a football pitch, a nine-lane athletic track, and courts for tennis, basketball, handball, and volleyball. Additionally, it features a modern gymnasium, a counseling center, an information technology hub, an entrepreneurship center, and a contemporary restaurant. These facilities have been meticulously designed to empower Ghana’s youth by promoting physical fitness, intellectual growth, and skill development.
This announcement follows the recent concerns voiced by Ghanaians regarding the subpar conditions of some sports pitches, which they believe have not reflected well on Ghana’s sporting image.
