Afua Asantewaa On The Verge Of Breaking 11-Year-Old Singathon Record
Ghana’s Afua Asantewaa Aduonum is on the verge of making history by breaking the 11-year old world longest individual singing marathon record.
India’s Sunil Waghmare currently holds the Guinness World Records for longest singing marathon by an individual of 105-hours, a feet he achieved in 2012 in Nagpur, India from March 3-7.
His record breaking attempt started at 11.06 am on March 3, with a variety of popular Indian songs. No song was repeated within a 4 hour period.
The attempt ended on the evening of March 7 after which Mr Waghmare joined in with a sing song with his supporters.
Afua Asantewaa who is a journalist and an entrepreneur begun her own adventure on the midnight of December 24, 2024 and is inching closer to the over 117 hours of singing target she intends to do as at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 28, 2023.
As at 9:00 am Thursday, Afua had already equalled Sunil Wagmare’s record of 105- hours of singing.
Previous Attempts
Dominican singer, Carlos Silver made two sapartate fruitless attempts in 2016 and 2019.
It was a heartbreaking moment for the Diminican singer in April 2019 as his ambitious attempt to break the record was thwarted due to breaches.
Despite singing over 5,000 songs for an astonishing 106 consecutive hours during a five day marathon, to surpass the previous record, he was still disqualified for breaching the organization’s stringent rules.
Guinness Records cited video evidence revealing that Silver took breaks of up to 2 minutes between songs, a clear violation of the specified 30-second break allowance.

Sources within Afua Asantewaa’s team has revealed that, a mechanism is in place monitoring to ensure that, the rules are strictly adhered to to the later as she chaces the ultimate.
The impressive feet chalked so far by Afua Asantewaa’s remarkable singing exploits could even enter Friday as she sets sights on setting a new singing milestone..
These has attracted a tall list of politicians including Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, Chief of Staff, Madam Frema Osei-Opare, Mayor of Accra, Elizabeth Tawiah Sackey, MP for Amasaman, Kwasi Owusu Afrifa-Mensa (Afua’s MP), MP for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George.
Musicians, artists and actors, sporting personalities among others have all thronged the Akwaaba Village, Airport, Accra to show their love and support for the young promising star.
Notable among them are Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Kuami Eugene, Sista Afia, Nana Ama McBrown, Mr. Drew, Akrobeto, Celestine Donkor, Obaapa Christy, Akuapem Polo, Asamoah Gyan, Stone Bwoy among many others.
