Achieving SDG 6: Akufo-Addo Commissions 11.5 Million Euros Adaklu Water Project
As a commitment towards the attainment of goal six of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of ensuring clean water and sanitation for all by 2030, Ghana’s president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned phase three of the Five Districts Water Supply Project at Adaklu in the Volta Region.
The sod cutting if the Eleven million, five hundred thousand euros (€11.5 million) project financed by a concessionary facility from Raiffeisen Bank International AG of Austria was performed in September 2020.
An estimated number of 89,150 people in 95 communities of diffrent districts including Central Tongu, Adaklu and Agotime-Ziope of the region and beyond will benefit from the potable water project which derives source water from the Volta River.
Some key components of the project include the construction of three (3) concrete tanks at Adaklu Kpeleho, Adaklu Sofa and Adaklu Kpatove, to help keep the water safe from any bacteria, the completion of a water booster station at Adaklu Kpeleho to transport water to Adaklu and Agotime-Ziope communities; and the laying of one hundred and seventy-five (175) kilometres of water pipelines.
President Akuffo Addo said his government is committed to ensuring that all regions across the country are provided with adequate, safe, affordable and reliable water services.
He also reiterate his commitment to ensuring a safer sanitation and hygiene society in line with the SDGs.
